Songs from the Heart Day 40 Psalm 131

Write the Psalm

a journal with two pens on top lies on top of another open journal. An open laptop is in the background

God, I’m not trying to rule the roost,

I don’t want to be king of the mountain.

I haven’t meddled where I have no business

    or fantasized grandiose plans.

2 I’ve kept my feet on the ground,

    I’ve cultivated a quiet heart.

Like a baby content in its mother’s arms,

my soul is a baby content.

3 Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope.

    Hope now; hope always!

—The Message

Writing involves both motor and visual skills, engaging two senses, which is what makes it a powerful tool to help us deeply engage with Scripture. Writing forces us to slow down and really consider and think about what we’re learning. Record Psalm 131 in your journal using whatever translation you prefer. As you write, seek to place your hope in God alone, resting in his authority and power like a child falling asleep in his or her father’s arms.
