Write the Psalm
It seemed like a dream, too good to be true,
when God returned Zion’s exiles.
We laughed, we sang,
we couldn’t believe our good fortune.
We were the talk of the nations—
“God was wonderful to them!”
God was wonderful to us;
we are one happy people.
And now, God, do it again—
bring rains to our drought-stricken lives
So those who planted their crops in despair
will shout “Yes!” at the harvest,
So those who went off with heavy hearts
will come home laughing, with armloads of blessing.
—The Message
Today, as you sit to write out Psalm 126, find a quiet place where you can fully focus on this passage. As you write, ask God to help you better understand the emotions expressed in these verses as well as the truths that apply to your life today. The Israelites were returning to their home after years of exile in a foreign land, and they knew they were experiencing God’s restoration. How will you trust God to restore you, even in a season where that feels next to impossible?
