Praying for the School Year

It’s back-to-school season, and the signs are everywhere you look. From commercials to school supply lists and all those first day of school photos on social media—it’s hard to miss the season.

The start of a new school year is a fresh start and a chance at a new beginning, but it can also create more than a little anxiety for students, parents and loved ones. So, in light of this new season, here are a few Scriptures to pray over the students, teachers, faculty, staff and other educators in your life.

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

This is the day the Lord has made;

let’s rejoice and be glad in it.

The Lord your God is among you,

a warrior who saves.

He will rejoice over you with gladness.

He will be quiet[a] in his love.

He will delight in you with singing.”

23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people

Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power,[a] love, and sound judgment.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.

Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”

Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love,[a] in faith, and in purity.

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you[a] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (NLT)

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
