Just another night in Nashvegas, baby!

Ahh, sweet coffee, the elixir of life! (Okay, so coffee with so much syrup, sugar, and whipped cream it doesn’t really count as coffee, at least in my dad’s book!) But it’s necessary this morning. It was up at 5 a.m. as usual, but I didn’t go to bed until midnight. BUT, I have a good reason. I, of course, was in the audience at Nashville Star once again!

Mindy and I joined our buddies Buddy, Andrea, and Justin to watch and cheer for Chris Young, our favorite (and it looks like the judges’ fave, too!) to win. It was original song night, and I couldn’t wait! Singers/songwriters–yep, that’s my cup of tea. Chris was chosen second and sang “Drinking Me Lonely.” He did so well that most women in the place wanted to try to ease his loneliness. I mean, who wouldn’t? Check out those dimples!

But I had a harrowing time just trying to get there. I left work in plenty of time to re-do my hair and make-up, even change clothes. Then as I was leaving downtown, I realized I had left the tickets at work. So I had to go back! Meaning that a wardrobe change and time to cure the extreme flip-out style my hair had created all on its own were out of the question. So I made my face look pretty (or at least passable) and used my favorite bad hair day solution, my fun plaid newsboy cap. Good thing it went with the outfit!

But hats are attention-getting. Usually not my idea of a good thing. So as Mindy and I are standing in line to get in, Shy Blakeman, one of the Nashville Star contestants voted off earlier, was standing nearby. I was just standing in line while Mindy was talking to the people behind us and Shy comes walking by, looks straight at me, smiles, and gives me the guy head nod! Here’s Shy, Nashville Star’s southern rock kind of guy:

Mindy says this whole experience is nothing and not important, but I think it’s funny. I never get the head nod or any kind of recognition or attention from passing guys and getting it from Shy was hilarious! Even now, when I’m having coffee just to make it through the morning, staying up until midnight and getting up at 5 a.m. was worth it–if just for the head nod, Chris’ amazing performance of his original song, lots of laughs and fun with Buddy, and good conversation with Mindy!

So get out there and vote. Keep Chris on another week!
