Baptist Wassail

A Christmas favorite, this fragrant, warm drink is perfect for any winter evening.

Ingredients

2 qt. cider or apple juice

1 1/2 qt. cranberry juice

1/2 cup brown sugar

3 sticks cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp. cloves (I don't like cloves so I omit)

1/4 tsp. salt

Directions

  1. Mix cider and juice.

  2. Pour into a 24-cup percolator.

  3. Place remaining ingredients in the basket and perk. Serve when warmed.

You can also make wassail on the stove top. Simply place all the ingredients in a large pot and simmer until sugar is dissolved and wassail reaches the right temperature. Use a fine mesh strainer to remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves.
